“living together is an adventure full of daily encounters – encounters with what i am not but could also become. we are different and yet often the same” (inspired by tahar ben jelloun)

every face is a wonder is a photo book project developed with sixth-grade students. the project centers on a unique flip book that features over 30 portraits of the children. each page shows a section of a student’s face, and the pages are designed to be flipped independently, creating endless combinations of mixed faces. intriguingly, no single combination reveals the complete face of an individual child. this intentional design invites viewers to embrace the individuality and shared humanity in every face.

however, the sixth graders quickly solved the “problem” of seeing their complete faces by ingeniously using two books at once—showing their ability to engage creatively with the medium.

the project extended beyond the book itself with an accompanying public art exhibition. portraits of the children’s eyes were displayed prominently on the exterior walls of the subway station at kottbusser tor in berlin. this installation transformed an everyday urban space into a celebration of the students’ uniqueness and diversity, inviting passersby to reflect on the wonder of individual identity and connection (… one could say ;) ).
